Diwali Lights Switch on 13th October 2006, was the formal ceremony for the switching on of the Diwali Lights in Barnsley Town Centre followed by refreshments at Jalsa restaurant.

Dusehra held on 21st October 2006 at Barnsley Town Hall, was an evening full of fun with delicious food and music, Garba and Danidia Ras Garba.

The Holi Festival held in March 2006, was kindly hosted by the Worsbrough Sports Centre. The event was well received with many dignitaries in attendance.

The success of Barnsley’s Summer Carnival and Parade was matched only by the great weather, as crowds flocked to the town centre on Saturday. Around 15,000 people came to the event and were entertained by live music, street theatre, children's entertainment and a street parade of more than 2,000 people.

Stilt-walkers, majorettes, brass bands, dancers and people of all ages from many different organisations made up the walking parade. The crowds were also entertained by acts performing on stages around the town centre.
