The IWA were a founding Community Organisation member of BBEMI and have been a constituted Association since 2002.

IWA Aims:

  • To act as a voice for the Indian Community of Barnsley, representing their views, defending their rights and opinions regardless of their religious and cultural beliefs and fundamental rights as citizens of Barnsley.
  • To promote real issues, organising fundraising for charities and worthy causes, improving links and communications with other organisations throughout Barnsley and Yorkshire.
  • To worke against racism to build a multi-racial community.
IWA EVENTS


Diwali 2006
The Diwali event was held at the Metrodome on Sunday the 5th November 2006. There was more than 150 attendees from various BME communities within Barnsley and many more people from the wider community.

Throughout the event guests were entertained by traditional dancers complimented with vibrant music from DJ’s Jam. Excellent culinary delights were provided by Chilli .The evening events concluded with a spectacular fireworks display.
Taste of cultural diversity
Taste of Cultural Diversity event held on15th October 2006 in Barnsley. It’s a social event with Live Music, Dance and creative workshop as well as giving you the chance to taste food from the many different cultures that now call Barnsley home.

Diwali 2005
Diwali held in year 2005, is a Hindu / Sikh Festival which is celebrated all over the world and occurs on the 15th day of Kartika.
Vaisakhi 2005
Vaisakhi held on 12th June, is the Harvest Festival of the Punjab and is celebrated with Dances and gaiety. The solar New Year’s Day is observed at this time through Northern India. For Hindus, it is significant of the day of the descent of Ganges to earth.
