Sports Initiative
BBEMI is fully committed to providing significant opportunities for its communities and their members to participate in recreational activity and sports.
Working in conjunction with numerous partner organisations such as Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC), the Primary Care Trust (PCT), Shaw Lane Sports Association, Barnsley Sport and Active Recreation Partnership (BSARP), Barnsley Sport and Activity Forum (BSAF) and Sheffield and Hallamshire County Football Association, BBEMI has elected a steering group to oversee the successful running of the BBEMI Sports Initiative (BSI).
The main aim of the BSI is to promote sport and active recreation as a means to leading a healthy lifestyle. This will be achieved by holding regular sporting events and promoting other local sports provision.
Each year, as part of the All Barnsley Diversity festival (ABDF), BBEMI organises a community sports day, which is open to all, at the Shaw Lane Sports Ground. Last year saw over four hundred people turn up, and was a massive success. The day included a football tournament, chess competition, various sprint races for all ages, face painting, a bouncy castle, children’s entertainer, a buffet with foods from around the world and a disco with Indian drummers to bring the event to a close.
