Youth Committee
Youth Committee
In conjunction with BMBC Youth Service, BBEMI works to provide all BME young people aged from 11 to 18 years in Barnsley with a range of enjoyable opportunities, challenging experiences and effective support that will enhance their personal, social and educative development and sense of identity during the transition to adulthood.
The strength of the BBEMI Youth Committee lies in the relationship between staff and the young people they work with.
The values and principles that lie at the heart of effective youth work shape these relationships. These principles are:
- Educative - learning opportunities providing information and skills development.
- Participative - playing an active role in their own, and their community's development.
- Empowering - Understanding and acting upon issues that effect their lives.
- Equality of opportunity - enables and encourages all young people to access services, to celebrate diversity and to understand and challenge all forms of oppression.
BBEMI and BMBC Youth Service also organised a BME girls’ residential trip to Skegness in Feb. 2006
There are regular drop-in sessions for training and social gathering aimed at BME young people age 11-18 bi-weekly at Barnsley Town Hall.
